Hello! I am a recent graduate from the University of Kansas where I received my master’s degree in Digital Content Strategy. I received my bachelor’s degree from Texas State University in Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in English. Throughout my life, I have been a dreamer and strongly believe that people still care about things going on in the world.
The news has always been an important part of my life. I can remember waking up on Sunday mornings at my grandparents’ house and sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper with my grandpa. Of course, being a young child (around six or seven) I really only got to read the comics, the ads, and whatever my grandpa had already read through and deemed “safe” for me to read.
Moving on to being a few years older, I found myself always looking for interesting stories. It helped that a class I took in high school required all of the students to bring three different news articles to class per week so at least I had an excuse to search the internet for hours looking at all the different things happening around the world.
The types of stories that have always caught my interest were the unordinary ones. All of the articles about celebrities and politics never caught my interest because they always seemed like old and boring news. Been there. Read that. I never felt the need to read it or anything similar to it again.
As my journey into learning more of what makes up a journalist, I have learned that I enjoy many aspects of the field. It’s not just the story that captures people’s interest these days. It’s how it is all presented. The color. The font. The placement on the page. Even the time of day it is posted. All of it matters. Though I still have a lot to learn in the design part, I have enjoyed every learning opportunity so far.
Whether I’m writing a story, taking a photo or video, trying to code or making a layout for something, I have come to realize that no matter what I am doing, I am still doing something for others. And I love that.
People interest me. Each one has a different story that they can recite or dreams that they can share. I want to be the person to listen to those memories and be able to share them with others that also like hearing good stories. And everyone enjoys listening to a good story.
